A vintage haberdashery cabinet, which is a beautiful example of utilitarian retail furniture from the early to mid-20th century.
The cabinet features a rectangular wooden case with a warm, medium-toned wood finish.
It contains 20 small drawers arranged in a graduated pattern. Each drawer has a recessed oval pull handle and a small brass label holder/card frame where merchandise information would have been displayed.
Inside the drawers reveal interiors made of a lighter wood. The drawers have a clean, simple construction designed for practical use.
The cabinet has a glass top surface that would have allowed customers to view merchandise while protecting items from dust and handling.
This type of cabinet was commonly used in haberdashery shops, tailoring establishments, and department stores to organise and display small items. Nowadays some people would use the cabinet in kitchen/diner.
In good condition, retaining its original hardware and finish, making it a desirable item for collectors of retail antiques or for repurposing in home decor. The cabinet has been re polished.
We have a pair of these cabinets - one is in the shop and the other is in storage.
