The monks bench has a hinged top that functions as both a backrest and a lid for storage. The top panel features decorative carved sun/fan motifs along the border with rope-twist carving along the edges.
The front panel of the chest displays elaborate relief carvings, including a central Green Man surrounded by acanthus leaves and scrollwork. The bench has short, turned legs and armrests with decorative supports.
The back of the bench features a different carved design with a shield or heraldic motif surrounded by flourishing scrollwork.
